The Karnataka Theological Research Institute

Karnataka Theological Research Institute (KATHRI) is the research wing of the Karnataka Theological College. To facilitate research both by the members of the teaching staff of the KTC and others, this research institute was founded in 1976. The object of the institute is to help the Christians in Karnataka to fulfil their task in Church and Society. KATHRI organises every year Pastoral Continuing Education programme on different themes to equip pastors various contemporary relevant issues. Pastors serving in different churches in Karnataka and Mumbai are invited for a weeklong programme. KATHRI organises every month Faculty seminars where all the faculty members, few local scholars and final year students participate. It also organises local, nation and international seminars. KATHRI also publishes books both in Kannada and English languages.

KATHRI also publishes yearly academic journal titled KTC Journal in English language and a quarterly news letter, DaivajnanaDeevigein Kannada language.


In 2007 KATHRI is affiliated to Hampi Kannada University, Karnataka for Ph. D programmes in Kannada, History and Developmental studies. The regular PhD programmes are conducted. The lecturers teaching in different secular colleges enrol for their Ph D prograame at the centre. Various renewed scholars and professors render their service a research guides.

The Kannada Theological Literature Committee

The KTLC is involved in the publication of theological text books in Kannada for students. There is a separate committee called Kannada Theological Literature Committee (KTLC) to plan the publications.


So far KTLC has published the following books:

Subodhavani

The College publishes a quarterly called Subodhavani in Kannada containing exegetical notes for preparation of sermons. The members of the K.T.C. Faculty and a few ministers contribute articles for publication. This is to provide sermon materials to the pastors and other preachers.

Rural Theological and Vocational Training Centre

Rural Theological and Vocational Training Centre (RTVTC) was established in 2003. The main aim of this centre is to do community development work and relate theology to rural life situations and ecology. The students are involved in various activities of the centre on exposure to rural life. Students also stay in the centre for some time and regular classes are held here. The Faculty members stay in the centre and conduct the classes. Various community development programmes are organized for the benefits of the people around. To facilitate the rural farmers training and workshops are held on skill development, wormiculture, dairy, pepper cultivation and other relevant issues. Tailoring and computer classes are held for the rural women and young people.

Department Women Studies

The Department of Women’s Studies (DOWS) gives emphasis to gender issues, justice in Church and society. It is widely recognized as a pioneering center for gender awareness and women’s empowerment. It is committed to addressing gender-based issues and challenges within ecclesial and societal contexts, fostering gender sensitivity and equity among students, faculty, and the broader community.


Key initiatives include organizing programmes, workshops, seminars, and Bible studies focused on gender justice and inclusion. The department is also actively engaged in advocacy, facilitating academic programs that critically examine issues concerning women and equipping participants to integrate gender perspectives into theology, ministry, and community leadership.

Rev Chennappa Uttangi Hostel

In 1972 KACES Hostel was built in place of old KTC hostel with the object that theological students should live with the secular students belonging to people of different faiths. A new block was added in 1994. Although it is meant primarily for students of KTC, it provides accommodation to the male students of other KACES Institutions and local colleges without distinction of caste or creed. The Hostel provides accommodation for 175 students. The Hostel Working Committee is responsible for the smooth running of the Hostel. Residents of the Hostel are bound by the rules and regulations laid down by the Hostel Management. Separate accommodation is provided for married and women students of KTC.

Mögling Smaaraka Aaradhanaalaya

A new Chapel was built in commemoration of the 150th year. Earlier the chapel was in the second floor of the Hostel. Daily morning and evening worship services for staff and students, community worships once a month, retreat at the beginning of each semester, fellowship groups for staff, students and their families, evening services for the hostel residents and tutorial groups to help students in their academic and personal problems are some of the activities designed to promote ministerial formation and spirituality of the students and to help the College community to live out its faith everyday. To enable students’ Bible knowledge, regular Scriptural exams are conducted.

Sahodaya — KTC Programme Centre

The long desired dream had come true with the establishment of Sahodaya, a Programme Centre of the Karnataka Theological College. It is a well-equipped Programme Centre having multifarious facilities like meeting halls (big and small), accommodation for about 50 people, a dining hall etc. The facilities are meant primarily for programmes arranged by the Karnataka Theological College (KTC) and Karnataka Theological Research Institute (KATHRI). To the extent possible accommodation will also be provided for any institution, secular or religious without distinction of religion, caste or creed for educational programmes. Guest room facilities are also available.
