Karnataka Journalists Union, Dakishina Kannada observed Press day in remembrance of Rev Dr Hermann Mögling at the Karnataka Theological College, Balmatta Mangalore by garlanding the statue of Mögling in the campus of the Karnataka Theological College. Rev Dr Hermann Mögling, the founding principal of the Karnataka Theological College is called as the father of journalism in South India. In Karnataka, press day is observed on July 1st, in memory of Rev Dr Hermann Mögling who published the first Kannada daily 'Mangaluru Samachaara,' on 1 st July 1843. Mr Harish Bantwal, President, Karnataka Journalist's Union, Dakhina Kannada, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the day. Chief Guest, Shri Sadashiva Ullal, The Chairman, Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), spoke on importance on press freedom. He emphasised that a memorial should be built in memory of Hermann Mögling. Rev Dr H M Watson, Principal Karnataka Theological College and Smt Mamatha Gatti, Chairperson, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation were the guests of Honour. Mr. Taranath Gatti Kapikad, Chairman, Tulu Academy & Secretary, Karnataka Journalist Union, Mr. Stany Alwaris, Chairman, Konkani Academy, were present. Mr. Vishwantah Suvarna, Senior Press Photographer, Mr. Durgaprasad, Social Activist, representatives of Karnataka Journalist Union Mr. Ishwar Varanasi, Mr. Giridhar Shetty, Mr. Donald Pinto Mr. Hameed Vitla, Mrs Jayashree were present. The faculty & staff members of KTC and the students of KTC and St. Aloysius High School and attended.
